Europe's support for Ukraine to continue, Trump will not allow relaxing - political strategist
Political strategist and managing partner of the National Anti-Crisis Group Taras Zagorodniy believes that Europe will continue to support Ukraine despite the change of key European politicians after the elections.
He spoke about this on Espreso TV.
‘I think that Trump will not let them (Europe - ed.) to relax. I think that Trump's approach will be as follows: Europeans should spend more on defense, support the Ukrainian army while buying American weapons, they will not forget about this, and take on defense costs. I am sure that now the question will not be about 2%, as agreed, but about 3% of GDP. And Europeans in general, as well as NATO countries, will be offered a cynical mechanism that is absolutely clear, as well as in terms of Trump's logic: if you pay 2%, there will be NATO's Article 5, if you don't pay 2% or 3%, most likely, the Article 5 does not exist for you, and you can deal with it yourself,’ he said.
Therefore, Taras Zahorodniy believes that the aid package from Germany, which German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced on December 2 during his visit to Kyiv, will not be the last.
‘It is in the interests of the United States of America that there is a bond: Ukraine-Poland and Northern Europe, which should be militarized, heavily armed and so on. In order to prevent a continental union between the old Europe, meaning Germany, Russia and China, which is what Mrs. Merkel has been actively doing for the last 20 years when she was chancellor. This is a nightmare for American diplomacy, because the unification of the resources of Europe, China, and Russia means the end of US hegemony in the world,’ the political strategist said.
- On November 25, it was reported that the SPD unanimously nominated Chancellor Scholz as its main candidate in the upcoming federal elections.
- On December 2, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz began an unannounced visit to Ukraine and announced a new €650 million aid package to be received by Kyiv this month. In Kyiv, Scholz met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
