Nearly 20,000 people evacuated from Ukraine's Sumy region
Since the start of the evacuation, 19,800 people, including about 2,000 children, have been evacuated from Ukraine's Sumy region
Volodymyr Artiukh, the head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, announced this during a telethon on August 11.
“As of today, there are 19,800 evacuees, including nearly 2,000 children. Since the announcement on August 6, evacuation has been carried out in 23 settlements, with about 3,800 people evacuated so far, including 175 children,” he said.
Artiukh noted that mandatory evacuations have been implemented in some areas due to Russian shelling in the Sumy region.
"A year ago, anticipating the need to protect the population, we announced an evacuation for a five-kilometer zone around 115 settlements. This is now in effect. Additionally, in the most dangerous areas, we have announced mandatory and compulsory evacuations. The compulsory evacuations currently affect two communities: Seredyna-Buda in the Shostka district and Velykopysarivka in the Okhtyrka district. Priority is given to evacuating children," he added.
- The forced evacuation of children in the Donetsk region is proceeding non-stop: 4,000 children remain in 28 settlements.
