Russia attacks Ukraine with drones overnight, air defense active in Kyiv and Khmelnytskyi
Since the evening of August 20, the Russian army has been launching Shahed attack drones on Ukrainian territory from the south. Air defense systems have been engaged in the Kyiv and Khmelnytskyi regions

Air defense work in Kyiv region
At 2:30 a.m., the Kyiv Regional Military Administration reported that a UAV was spotted in the airspace of the region. Air defense forces were engaging the targets.
At 4:00 a.m., monitoring channels reported the presence of Shahed drones in the suburbs of the capital once again.
“Air raid alert continues! Air defense is operating in the region, on the outskirts of Kyiv. Stay in shelters until the air raid is over!” said Serhiy Popko, the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration.
At 4:30 a.m., the air raid alert in Kyiv was canceled, but at 5:11 a.m., the threat was reported again. The alert was subsequently lifted at 5:18 a.m., only to be reissued at 6:48 a.m.
“Attention! UAV threat to the capital! Take cover!” Serhiy Popko wrote at 6:52 a.m.
The next air raid alert in Kyiv was announced at 7:14 a.m.
Russian drones reach Prykarpattia, air defense engaged in Khmelnytskyi region
At dawn on August 21, during an air raid, Russian drones attacked Ivano-Frankivsk region.
Svitlana Onyshchuk, the head of the Ivano-Frankivsk regional military administration, reported the information.
According to her, fortunately, there were no casualties or damage.
In the Khmelnytskyi region, explosions were heard at night, Suspilne TV reported.
In the morning, the head of the Khmelnytskyi Regional Military Administration, Serhiy Tiurin, said that air defense was operating in the region. Air defense forces downed 2 Russian UAVs within Khmelnytskyi region. No casualties or injuries were reported, and there was no information about property damage.
