Russia can't completely destroy Ukraine's energy system - intelligence chief Budanov
Kyrylo Budanov, head of Ukraine's Main Intelligence Directorate, says that Russian attacks on Ukraine's energy sector could make operations harder but won't destroy the system
He said this in an interview with TSN.
According to him, the energy systems built in the Soviet era have a huge margin of safety, and Ukraine, like Russia, has protected them additionally.
"All these nodes are heavily protected. Just as we are trying to protect ours, so are similar measures being taken in Russia. Only they have chosen to build up their air defense system more. Their capabilities for this are much greater because they are manufacturers of such systems. Therefore, to say that we are going to put their power system on the line is probably a bit incorrect," Budanov said.
He added that Russia doesn't have the ability to completely destroy the Ukrainian energy system.
"They won't give us the whole thing either. The Soviet system was as branched and duplicated as possible, with three or four duplicates in certain nodes. It is possible to make life difficult. It is almost impossible to completely destroy it," the head of the Ukrainian intelligence service emphasized.
- Recently, the Prime Minister's energy advisor said that Ukrainians could live the next three months without any power outages or with minimal electricity restrictions.
