By capturing Ukraine, Russia will strengthen its capabilities for further conquests — Sikorski on potential attack on Poland
Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski says the threat Russia poses to Poles is more than real, adding that Putin will not stop at the war in Ukraine
Politico reported the information.
“Russia has attacked Poland many times in the 500 years of our history,” Sikorski said, adding he “wouldn't be surprised at all” if it happened again.
Despite his belief that Russia would still lose the war with NATO, Sikorski warned that “we shouldn't assume that things will go our way.”
He noted that by seizing Ukraine, the Russian military would only strengthen its capabilities for further conquests.
"We have a choice: Either having a defeated Russian army outside the borders of Ukraine or a victorious Russian army on the border of Poland. And what Putin would then do is what Hitler did to Czechoslovakia, he would take the industry and the people of Ukraine and mobilize them to go further," Sikorski said.
He added that if Putin conquers Ukraine and becomes stronger, it will be an even greater challenge for Poland.
“It's better to stop Putin in Ukraine, 500-700 km east of here," he stated.
- On Monday, 22 April, Polish President Andrzej Duda said that Warsaw is ready to deploy NATO nuclear weapons in response to Russia's military build-up in Belarus and Kaliningrad.
