Police seize over 11,000 mines and large-caliber ammunition from Ukrainians in 2024
Since the beginning of 2024, Ukrainian law enforcement officers have seized more than 11,000 mines and large-caliber ammunition, as well as more than 3,000 kg of explosives from citizens
This was announced by the head of the Criminal Investigation Department of the National Police of Ukraine Vadym Dziubynskyi, Ukrinform reports.
‘Regarding the number of weapons seized by the National Police over 11 months of this year, we are talking about more than 1 million 600 thousand rounds of ammunition, almost 15 thousand grenades, 11 thousand mines and large-caliber ammunition, and more than 3 thousand kg of explosives,’ he said.
The National Police seize these weapons both at checkpoints and during operational activities, operational purchases, and investigative actions.
‘As for the number of criminal proceedings initiated by the National Police, it is 5,301 proceedings. In 4,088 cases, people were served with notices of suspicion, and more than 3,500 of these cases have already gone to court,’ Dziubynskyi said.
According to him, law enforcement officers are working to identify caches or places where large quantities of weapons are stored, which is one of their priorities.
‘So far, 139 places where large quantities of weapons have been stored have been discovered over 11 months. In addition, the police have made 950 operational purchases,’ the National Police representative summed up.
