One of Russia's newest fighter jet models destroyed over Black Sea
Serhiy Bratchuk, spokesman for the Ukrainian Volunteer Army South, has provided details of Russian Su-30SM fighter jet downing over the Black Sea
He said this on Espreso TV.
"We congratulate the DIU (Defense Intelligence of Ukraine - Ed.) servicemen, who have truly achieved an important victory for Ukraine in the air. This aircraft is very valuable, as it is one of the newest models in the Russian Armed Forces. As for the details, I would like to draw attention to the information from Russian so-called military commanders, who were quick to say that the DIU operation was unsuccessful: 10 boats with troops were allegedly destroyed. The landing party was allegedly heading for surface facilities located in the Black Sea near Zmiinyi Island and was eliminated, which, according to them, had positive consequences for Russia. By the way, the Russians also claimed that the boats were carrying man-portable air defense systems. However, in reality, everything happened differently," Bratchuk said.
According to a spokesperson for the Ukrainian Volunteer Army South, the Su-30SM aircraft has been in service with the Russian Federation since 2012, which is a fairly new model. And it was a man-portable air defense system that shot down the Russian modernized aircraft.
"The Russians stepped on their own rake, so to speak, in terms of information. First, the MANPADS worked, and the plane was indeed shot down. At first, the information that the plane did not return to the base was not confirmed. Search operations were conducted using combat helicopters and helicopters to evacuate the crash site. An oil slick about three kilometers in diameter was found near Cape Tarkhankut, as well as the wreckage of the plane. The Russians were forced to admit that the Su-30SM was destroyed," Bratchuk said.
A spokesman for the Ukrainian Volunteer Army South added that the aircraft was firing in the direction of Zmiinyi Island, which is part of the village of Bile, Izmail district, Odesa region.
"The DIU operation was carefully prepared and is a unique case both for the current war and for modern wars in general," Bratchuk emphasized.
