Military expert Petro Chernyk says what will help the Ukrainian Armed Forces destroy the Crimean bridge

He said this on the Espreso TV channel.

"Indeed, the Crimean bridge can be destroyed. It will take hundreds of missiles. We should not underestimate the enemy. The Russians still have S-400, which can shoot down missiles. The right thing to do is to do everything in such a way that there is a mixed cycle of attack. That is, we need ballistics, in particular ATACMS missiles, which fly at 5,400 kilometres per hour and are very difficult to shoot down. It is also necessary to use cruise missiles and a whole group of drones," Chernyk said.

However, the philosophy of success in the strategic sense is quite different, the military expert said.

"Indeed, the Crimean bridge can be destroyed. However, it needs to be taken under fire control so that the Russia cannot repair it. If a few sections fall, but this phenomenon will not be permanent, they will repair the bridge after a while. But it will take hundreds of missiles to take fire control," Chernyk added.

  • On January 6, the head of the Joint Coordination Press Centre of the Southern Ukrainian Defence Forces, Natalia Humeniuk, said that Russia was actively trying to protect the Crimean bridge from air and sea attacks.
  • On February 25, the Chief of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, thanked the residents of the temporarily occupied Crimea for their help and advised civilians not to use the Crimean bridge, hinting at "new surprises" for the invaders in 2024.
  • On March 2, retired British Colonel Glen Grant noted that the destruction of the Crimean Bridge would significantly weaken the capabilities of the Russian forces on the front line.
