All available Ukraine support funds to be utilized before Biden's term ends — Pentagon
The U.S. Defense Department plans to utilize all remaining Ukraine support funds by the end of Biden’s term, with around $4 billion allocated for the Presidential Drawdown Authority (PDA) and $2 billion for the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI)
Deputy Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh publicized the information.
“We still have approximately $2 billion left in USAI as well that we can commit. So you're going to continue to see packages roll out in the coming weeks before the end of this administration.
That is consistent with how we've been doing this in the past. It's something that we've done on a pretty regular almost weekly basis, but I'd remind you, it's not just the United States that's supporting Ukraine and that will continue to support Ukraine,” Singh said.
She also reminded that Ukraine has bicameral and bipartisan support in Congress.
“So there is an administration change that's going to happen in January, but support for Ukraine remains strong,” emphasized the Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary.
When asked if the U.S. has enough weapons in current stockpiles and production to use the remaining $4 billion in PDA by January 20, Singh confirmed that they would draw down the PDA by the end of the term.
At the same time, she assured that the Pentagon is constantly replenishing its weapons stockpile.
- The Biden administration plans to allocate the remaining $6 billion in military aid to Ukraine before the Trump administration takes power.
