Russia turning Mariupol’s historic downtown into desert - advisor to Mariupol mayor
Dismantling of buildings in Mariupol is going on around the clock, Russian occupying forces are demolishing the historic center of the city
Petro Andriushchenko, an advisor to the mayor of Mariupol, reported the information on Espreso TV.
"They are destroying everything, the dismantling works 24/7. The fact that they are demolishing high-rise buildings has long been known, but now they have reached the real historical center. These are nineteenth-century buildings. In addition to being original buildings, they have many artifacts," he said.
Andriushchenko emphasized that before the war there was a powerful historical movement in the city that restored the center, tried to preserve it and pass it on to descendants.
"Today it's all going under excavators, no one is looking into it. This is a very big spot in the downtown of Mariupol, next to the Drama Theater. The administrative and historical center of Mariupol is turning into a desert. These are losses that cannot be restored. Of course, we will rebuild everything, but the real history of the city has been destroyed," summarized the mayor's advisor.
