Russia battles oil depot fire for two days after drone strike in Rostov region
A fire is still burning at an oil depot in Proletarsk, Russia’s Rostov region, after a drone attack that occurred on August 18
Russian propaganda media and local Telegram channels report.
According to them, firefighters have been fighting the fire that engulfed the fuel tanks for more than two days. A specialized fire train was dispatched to fight the fire, as well as ambulances to provide medical care to the victims. Later, two more fire trucks arrived at the scene, but they have not yet been able to extinguish the fire.
According to local authorities, quoted by the propagandist RIA Novosti, 18 people were allegedly injured in the fire.
Local Telegram channels report that the fire at the oil depot led to the formation of a large black cloud of toxic smoke that covered the city. The smell of burning and smoke significantly worsen the air quality. Therefore, the authorities have strongly advised local residents to limit their time outside to minimize health risks.
An emergency situation has been declared in Proletarsk, and firefighting is ongoing. Local authorities report that there is no threat of the fire spreading to residential buildings.
- On the night of August 18, Russia claimed to have shot down UAVs over three regions. In the Rostov region, the Ukrainian Defense Forces attacked the Kavkaz plant, where the oil products were stored.
