Russia responds to NYT information about Kremlin discussing nuclear strike
Dmytry Peskov, the spokesman of Putin, has regarded the New York Times information about the discussion of a nuclear strike on Ukraine as "aggravating the topic"
Russian mass media reported on Peskov’s comments.
According to Peskov, Moscow "is not going to participate in stirring up the topic of Russia's use of nuclear weapons in Ukraine."
"We state that both at the official level and at the level of the mass media there is a purposeful aggravation of this topic of nuclear weapons. We have no intention of participating in it. We consider it to be very, very irresponsible," said Peskov.
The New York Times, citing sources in the US administration, reported that senior Russian military leaders recently had conversations to discuss when and how Moscow might use a tactical nuclear weapon in Ukraine. President Vladimir V. Putin was not a part of the conversations.
The data contributes to heightened concern in Washington and allied capitals. However, American officials said they had seen no evidence that the Russians were moving nuclear weapons into place or taking other tactical measures to prepare for a strike.
