EU elites flood neo-Nazi Ukraine with weapons, money: foreign narratives for August 9
The Center for Countering Disinformation has published a selection of anti-Ukrainian disinformation and manipulations circulated by the world media on August 9
According to the Center, disinformation and manipulation emerged globally on August 9.
Manipulation: The American outlet Newsweek wrote: “The conflict has deteriorated into a brutal war of attrition along a mostly unchanging front. It has resulted in hundreds of thousands of young men dead or maimed, and an entire generation who once constituted Ukraine's future fleeing abroad. Was the Biden policy of prolonging the war worth this horrific price?”
Refutation: This statement misleads readers by shifting the responsibility for the war and its consequences to President Biden's policies, while it is Russia that launched the armed aggression against Ukraine and bears full responsibility for the destruction and suffering of the Ukrainian people.
Disinformation: Irish journalist Chay Bowes wrote on his X page: "The EU elites flooded a neo-Nazi aligned Ukraine with weapons and cash to destroy their own country and attempt to destroy Russia. Killing civilians. Burning monasteries, the Russians have seen it all before. Defeated it all before."
Refutation: Chay Bowes is attempting to demonize Ukraine, its partners, and their military assistance. Firstly, it was Russia that launched the invasion and is committing war crimes in Ukraine. Secondly, the purpose of Western arms supplies is to strengthen Ukraine's defense capabilities and its ability to repel the Russian army's offensive.
- Telegram channel Iznanka published a video with alleged data from a sociological survey by the European Commission's statistical organisation Eurostat, which states that 64% of Ukrainians do not believe in the return of Ukraine's 1991 borders.
