Reznikov tells when Ukrainian Armed Forces will be able to launch counteroffensive
Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov said that Ukraine will be able to launch a counteroffensive at the front after the military master new Western equipment.
Reznikov said this in an interview with Babel.
According to him, the Ukrainian military will need time to master new Western equipment.
"Training of tank crews involves the cohesion of units, in fact, these are assault tasks. It will take some time. Let's take a realistic timeframe of up to two months, when mechanics will know how to drive, artillerymen will know how to shoot, crew commanders will know how to give tasks, and technicians will know how to maintain. We need to establish a system of quick repair of equipment on the spot, medium repair somewhere in Ukraine, and complex repair abroad," Reznikov said.
At the same time, he refused to make any predictions about the timing of the counteroffensive and emphasized that the Russian offensive must first be repelled.
"These are approximate terms. There must be forces and means to implement the plan of the General Staff. Second, let's not forget about weather conditions. For example, in February, the Russians' bet on the so-called "General Frost" did not work. They thought they could go on the offensive with wheeled vehicles. It played into our hands that the soil and swamps did not freeze. And the question is what kind of spring will come. Right now we are focusing our efforts on preventing the Russians from successfully launching an offensive. When we are ready, we will decide when to launch a counteroffensive. It is wrong to predict when it will happen now," Reznikov explained.
On February 20, Oleksii Reznikov said that Ukraine had not yet received long-range missiles due to a complicated process of approval between the allies.
