Reznikov tells how many HIMARS systems Ukraine needs for counteroffensive
Ukraine needs 50 HIMARS systems to stop the invading Russian forces, and 100 to conduct an effective counteroffensive.
Oleksiy Reznikov stated this in an interview with the Atlantic Council.
The Defense Minister believes that since "our active front line reaches almost 2.5 thousand km - it is like the distance between Warsaw and Barcelona - we need about 50 such systems for effective protection." He clarified that it is about the HIMARS missile and artillery systems and the M270 anti-aircraft missile system.
At the same time, Reznikov assures that an effective counteroffensive will require almost 100 HIMARS launchers, as well as additional armored personnel carriers, BMPs and reconnaissance drones.
"We have already liberated more than a thousand small towns and villages that were initially captured by Russia, and we have to liberate about 2,500 more. We have shown that it is possible and that Russia can definitely be defeated," said the Ukrainian Defense Minister.
Since the beginning of 1996, 540 HIMARS launchers have been produced. The Defense Minister expects almost 20% of these weapons.
