Putin's use of nuclear weapons would be catastrophic for Russia - former Trump's adviser Bolton
John Bolton, former National Security Adviser to the US President Donald Trump, told Espreso whether Russian leader Vladimir Putin will use nuclear weapons
The American diplomat is convinced that if Putin authorizes the use of nuclear weapons, he is going to be a legitimate military target.
“He is the ultimate commander of the Russian military forces. The use of nuclear weapons is a military decision. Putin would be a legitimate target and he should be. The reason I stress on personal responsibility is that we need to be looking for ways to deter Putin from using nuclear weapons and I think his own risk is the best deterrent that I can think of,” he said.
The former United States Ambassador to the United Nations believes that Putin will sign the death sentence by using nuclear weapons.
“It would be a catastrophic event for Russia. There would be no doubt whether he'd use the tactical nuclear weapon in Ukraine or against NATO countries. We would not let that go unanswered, and the response should be very devastating,” he said.
However, according to John Bolton, Putin is unlikely to use nuclear weapons, so “he is just bluffing.”
