Putin will definitely have to get rid of Prigozhin – Feygin
Russian opposition politician Mark Feygin believes that Prigozhin's existence is very dangerous to Putin
He shared his opinions with Espreso TV.
"If Prigozhin's personal enemies, Shoigu and Gerasimov, especially Shoigu, were to disappear, because it is a matter of money that is concentrated in the system of the Ministry of Defense, then Prigozhin would be satisfied. And the Patrushevs and the others could probably proceed at their own discretion. That's why Putin is afraid of all this, that's why he left, that's why he tried to reach an agreement with Prigozhin as soon as possible. Probably, the agreements have been reached, but will the parties, especially Putin, remain faithful to the agreements? I have great doubts," Feygin said.
According to the opposition politician, there is an important point why Putin will definitely have to get rid of Prigozhin – he knows too much.
"After all, Prigozhin, in addition to carrying a threat on that day, June 24, is a carrier of a huge amount of information. He has learned so much in a quarter of a century! He has done a lot of things – dubious, dirty, murder, girls and boys, and whatever. He served Putin and his inner circle, dealing with the dirtiest cases – from Africa to Libya, from Syria to Moscow, from Donbas, where he and Wagner PMC “have never been deployed to” since 2014," Feygin emphasized.
The opposition politician also added that Prigozhin cannot travel wherever he wants.
"It is clear that there were regular units of the Ministry of Defense in Donbas, but the roof, the facade was Wagner PMC, which embodied the images of tractor drivers, miners fighting against the regular government army of Kyiv. Such a person cannot travel wherever he wants to in Belarus. What if he is kidnapped? What if the Americans kidnap him? They are not Ukrainians. Can you imagine how much they can learn and change everything? This is a level A information carrier, because he has everything - ties, accounts, money, Africa, and all the other things. Therefore, the existence of such a person is very dangerous to Putin," Feygin emphasized.
Prigozhin's mutiny in Russia
For several months, there has been a conflict between Yevgeny Prigozhin, the financier of Wagner PMC, and the Russian Ministry of Defense. However, the situation escalated quickly on the evening of June 23.
Allegedly, Russian troops launched a missile attack on the Wagner base. Yevgeny Prigozhin, the leader of the Wagner PMC, announced a "march of justice" and stated that 25,000 mercenaries were heading to Moscow after the Russian leadership refused to hand over Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov.
On June 24, Wagner’s fighters took control of Rostov-on-Don, where they initially gathered around the headquarters of the Southern Military District, and then entered the city of Voronezh. Their convoys, which had diverted from the Ukrainian border, were moving towards Moscow. Military aircraft and artillery under Shoigu's control attempted to stop them. The units of Wagner PMC were last spotted in the Lipetsk region. In Moscow itself, defensive positions were established, trenches were dug, and all security forces were mobilized.
However, on the evening of June 24, the press service of the self-proclaimed President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, released a statement in which the head of the Wagner PMC said that he was ready to stop the advance of his mercenaries' military convoys, which were already approaching Moscow, and to reach an agreement with the Kremlin. Prigozhin allegedly agreed on this during a conversation with Lukashenko.
Instead, Prigozhin announced that the Wagner group had stopped their advance and returned to their field camps before reaching 200 km from Moscow. He stated, "In a day, we traveled without reaching 200 km to Moscow. During this time, no blood was shed. However, the moment may come when blood will be spilled. Therefore, taking full responsibility, we are turning our columns around and heading back to the field camps as planned."
Subsequently, Prigozhin and all his fighters left the headquarters of Russia's Southern Military District. Russian leader Vladimir Putin promised that Prigozhin would be able to go to Belarus, and Russia would drop the criminal case against him.
