Positive dynamics of cutting off Russian troops in Izyum direction continues, but they will try to gather forces to seize positions lost in Kharkiv region - Zgurets

Serhii Zgurets, director of the Defense Express information and consulting company, believes that the Ukrainian Armed Forces' breakthrough in the Kharkiv region was unexpected for the invading Russian forces, as they expected an attack from the other side of Balaklia. Ukraine's Armed Forces have created a threat to one of the sources of power of the Russian group around Izyum.

He shared the details with Espreso TV.

"The Ukrainian army is launching counter offensives in many directions, in particular the south, where the dynamics are quite positive and at the same time difficult, and the Kharkiv region, where Ukrainian forces secured a breakthrough of almost 50 km over the course of several days. This was said by the Deputy Chief of the Operational Department of the General Staff of Ukraine's Armed Forces, Oleksii Hromov, that the Ukrainian army liberated about 20 settlements. This breakthrough for the Russians turned out to be rather unexpected, because they expected an attack by the Ukrainian army from the other side of Balaklia, which ensured our movement in the direction of Kupiansk and to the crossing of the Vovchansk - Kupiansk highway, which is one of the sources of power for the Russian group around Izyum," the military analyst explained.

Serhii Zgurets noted that the actions in the Kharkiv, Balaklia, and Izyum directions are extremely important and now Ukrainians have to expect attempts by the Russians to seize the positions they lost.

"However, the General Staff's morning update shows that there are no positive changes for the aggressor. The Russians are trying to flee, change into civilian clothes, as well as to avoid capture or death. I think that the positive dynamics of cutting off the Izyum group continues, although the enemy will try to gather forces somewhere under the border and those reserve battalion-tactical groups that are stationed on the territory of the Russian Federation in order to send them to recapture the positions liberated by us," Zgurets commented.

The military expert noted that now at the expense of artillery and aviation, Ukraine's Armed Forces will be able to thin out Russian capabilities, and this will become the basis for further actions of the Ukrainian Ground Forces. But rather, Ukrainians will move in the direction of completely cutting off the enemy's logistical routes, continue this wedge into the Russian defense, and expand the bridgehead.
