Polish protesters opened the hatch of two Ukrainian freight cars containing grain at Medyka. The Ukrainian railroad carrier Ukrzaliznytsia condemns such actions and calls for an end to the illegal actions.

Ukrzaliznytsia reported that about 40 Ukrainian freight cars with agricultural products are currently awaiting transshipment at the station. Polish Railways and the Embassy of Ukraine in Poland were informed about the unauthorized interference with the work of the railroad.

"Ukrzaliznytsia strictly adheres to the ban on grain imports to the Republic of Poland introduced in April 2023 and only transits these cargoes through the territory of the neighboring country. All railcars at the border are checked by Polish regulatory authorities and sealed. This makes it impossible for Ukrainian grain to enter the Polish market," the statement said.

Ukrzaliznytsia is outraged by these actions of the Polish protesters and calls for an end to the illegal actions.

According to Oleksandr Kubrakov, Ukraine's Minister for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure, the spilled Ukrainian grain on the railroad tracks in Poland is another political provocation aimed at dividing our nations.

"No one benefits from spoiled grain. Such "actions" are a loss for everyone, except for the Russians, who are interested in destroying our countries and dividing civilized states. For 2 years, Ukrainian farmers have been harvesting grain in bulletproof vests, under rocket attacks and despite the danger of mines. The Ukrainian army has literally broken through a corridor for this grain across the Black Sea, and the world has already called it the Ukrainian Corridor," Kubrakov stated.

Earlier, Suspilne reported that on February 20, Polish protesters intensified their protests near the Medyka-Shehyni border crossing. Farmers blocked the railroad and poured grain from a freight car.

Earlier, the Solidarność website announced that the protest would last at least until March 10.

"On February 20, as part of a 30-day general strike of farmers, we announce that all protests will be focused on a complete blockade of all border crossings between Poland and Ukraine," the statement said.

  • Earlier it was reported that Polish farmers promised to block all border crossings with Ukraine for a month starting February 20. Ukrainian carriers held their own peaceful protest in response to the actions of Polish farmers.
  • The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine stated that it had not received any information from the Polish side regarding the complete blocking of the border. In response to the Polish blockade, Ukrainian carriers are preparing a protest at three checkpoints.
  • Later it was reported that hunters would join the protests of Polish farmers.
