Pentagon announces the transfer of 4 HIMARS systems to Ukraine
US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin says the United States will transfer 4 more High Mobility Artillery Systems (HIMARS) to Kyiv as part of the latest package of military support for Ukraine
This is reported by the US Ministry of Defense.
Earlier this week, Russian Defense Minister Shoigu ordered the generals to give priority to the destruction of long-range missile and artillery weapons, which were transferred to Ukraine by the West.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces have already managed to successfully use HIMARS to strike Russian supply lines.
"We will continue to find innovative ways to sustain our long-term support for the brave men and women of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. We will adjust our assistance to ensure that Ukraine has the technology, ammunition and sheer firepower to defend itself", Austin said.
The US Defense Secretary also said the new aid package would also include shells for rocket launchers as well as artillery ammunition.
The latest package will bring the total number of HIMARS provided by the United States to Ukraine to 16.
It is noted that in total, the US has provided Ukraine with USD 8 billion in security assistance since the start of the full-scale war, including USD 2.2 billion in the last month alone.
