Peace talks are meaningless without Russia’s defeat
Peace talks between Ukraine and Russia are now a topic of interest for many in the West
However, one should not simply hope for a peaceful resolution but approach the matter with a realistic perspective.
The Russian-Ukrainian war is unique in that it can only end with the defeat of one of the parties, which must then accept the consequences of that defeat.
The start of peace talks can provide a temporary respite from the war, which is a beneficial scenario for Russia and its allies because:
-
Ukrainians know firsthand the toll that prolonged conflict can take on a society and how it can lead to a sense of despair and demoralization. When it seems that there is no war in sight, but people suffer, die and are maimed from hostilities. This creates a general atmosphere of schizophrenia. After all, Putin dared to attack us again precisely because he believed that, having lived in this mode since 2014, we had said goodbye to reason a long time ago.

-
Moscow hopes that by initiating the negotiation process, it can sow discord and conflicts within NATO.
Buying into the Russian and Chinese propaganda will definitely lead to further destabilization and conflict.
In conclusion: peace talks alone will not solve the conflict without the defeat of Russia. Otherwise, it will be a victory for Russia and a defeat for the West. The third option is not feasible.
