Our EU membership is under question if military restrictions apply to freedom of speech and rule of law
Ukraine's security depends on NATO and EU integration, this is our future
People's deputy Mykola Knyazhytskyi said this on Espreso TV.
"The fact that the door is open to the EU is true. Now Sweden is the president, and many European politicians have made it part of their political career to accept Ukraine. They bet everything on it. But there are many Eurosceptics who do not want Ukraine in the European Union. Such opinions are supported by Russians. They cannot decide, but the EU member states can. And they monitor how Ukraine follows the EU recommendations and decide if we meet the criteria. They monitor how we divide the power of the president, the Verkhovna Rada, the judiciary, and how the freedom of speech is protected in the country. Unfortunately, some of our leaders believe that there are so many people willing to support us in the EU that no one will pay attention to it," Knyazhytskyi said.
According to him, Ukraine is losing its chances for EU membership.
"No one will accept Ukraine in the EU if Ukraine is not democratic. These are complicated times. There’s war, martial law, certain restrictions are introduced, but these restrictions should not apply to the basic principles – freedom of speech and the rule of law. That’s where we have some issues. That’s why our EU membership is under question," Knyazhytskyi emphasized.
