Next anti-Putin rebellion will be less chaotic than Prigozhin's, happen by end 2024 -  political analyst Morozov

Alexander Morozov, a political scientist and lecturer at Charles University in Prague (Czech Republic), believes that a new anti-Putin armed uprising is likely to take place in Russia by the end of next year. He says that this time the attempt to overthrow the regime will be more systematic

He spoke about this in an exclusive interview with the Espreso TV channel.

"I am inclined to think, frankly, that by the end of the next 2024, the situation will lead to some kind of attempt at an anti-Putin rebellion - such an elite one. Not as crazy as Prigozhin's, because Prigozhin was such an element of anecdote in this - some kind of storming of Moscow, 3,000 armed people," the political analyst said.

At the same time, Morozov believes that Putin's ouster could be carried out by someone from his entourage who decides to "abandon the aggressive war".

"If we are looking from the Kremlin's side now, if everything remains in this state, i.e. there are no tools, and the rhetoric remains, and Putin does not take any steps towards anything other than strengthening his 'autarky' - his own isolation, then I would believe that some attempt to remove him is inevitable by the end of 2024. How it will end is unknown. It must be emphasised that this is a complex construct, and I must say that Russian society should not get its hopes up here, because this removal of Putin by people who are part of his own environment will be salutary for stopping the war. However, this will not change anything for the situation of this Russian society itself, because these will be the same people, just those who have refused to wage aggressive war," Alexander Morozov predicts.

  • As a reminder, Prigozhin's funeral was held behind closed doors at the Porokhovskoye Cemetery in St Petersburg. He was buried in a closed coffin.
  • Before the plane crash, which allegedly killed the head of the Wagner PMC, the Russian property registers, according to opposition media, had been purged of data on property registered to his relatives, and Prigozhin's companies had changed their managers.
  • According to one version, Prigozhin is alive and faked his own death
