Oleksandr Kraiev, expert at the Foreign Policy Council "Ukrainian Prism", noted that former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson could become a liaison between Labour's London and the Republican Washington

He spoke about this on Espreso TV.

"The meeting between former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Donald Trump is an interesting question that has no clear answer yet. We can only refer to the key narratives that were voiced there. First, we know that Johnson is applying for several major international positions, both within NATO and within the Ukraine Recovery Fund. Johnson wants to stay in big politics, at least at the level of international organisations. And for this purpose, now is the time to work with Trump on the issue of Ukraine, because Johnson himself said that it was a key topic. That is, by discussing the topic of peace in Europe, Johnson emphasises that he is the most suitable person to work in these international positions," the international expert said.

According to him, there is the other side of the coin that is being discussed by British colleagues. It is known that the Conservative government of the United Kingdom had no problems with Donald Trump. And the Labour government with Keir Starmer (the newly appointed Prime Minister of the United Kingdom - ed.) has good relations with the democratic Joseph Biden.

"We also know that Labour is very dubious about Trump, his adequacy, and the possibility of cooperation. That's why Britain needs someone, a negotiator, who can convey to Trump the need for cooperation and who will also be a liaison between Labour's London and the Republican Washington. According to British colleagues, this may be Johnson's return to big politics. That is, to become a kind of envoy between two governments that are not particularly ready to understand each other. Neither of these theories is mutually exclusive, so it's worth saying that Johnson is proving himself to be an experienced politician, realising that no one can find common ground with Trump. And Johnson has experience of working with Trump and understands his psychology of action, so he can help both in the international format and specifically in British issues," Kraiev concluded.

  • On July 17, former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson met with US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.
