Moldova recognizes Holodomor as genocide of Ukrainian people
At its Thursday meeting, the Parliament of Moldova adopted a declaration recognizing the Holodomor or Great Famine of 1932-1933 as genocide of the Ukrainian people

54 deputies voted for the document, and there was not a single vote against. A representative of the Communist Party of Moldova, Oleg Reidman, suggested removing the declaration from the agenda before the vote.
Deputies of the Communists and the Șor party left the session hall before the vote.
“The Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, in the spirit of solidarity with the Ukrainian people and in the name of justice, declares that the Bolshevik totalitarian regime of the former USSR as a result of the Holodomor policy is responsible for the act of deliberate genocide against the Ukrainian people,” the declaration reads.
The Parliament of Moldova also appealed to all parliaments of the world and international institutions to show full solidarity with Ukraine and give a correct assessment of the criminal acts committed in 1932-1933.
“The memory of the Holodomor and commitment to universal human values obliges us to stand in solidarity with the Ukrainian people in order to end the policy of genocide of the Ukrainians in the 21st century and save peace and freedom on the European continent,” the document reads.
After the adoption of the declaration, the deputies announced a moment of silence in memory of the victims of both the Holodomor and the current war in Ukraine unleashed by Russia.
