Frontline situation is most intense in Kramatorsk, Pokrovsk, Kurakhove sectors. Ukrainian drone operators work in Krynky area

As of Friday evening, on May 17, most of the fighting is taking place in the Kramatorsk, Pokrovsk and Kurakhove sectors in Donetsk region of Ukraine

"Ukrainian troops continue to steadfastly resist the attempts of the Russian occupation army to break through our defenses - most of the fighting took place in the Kramatorsk, Pokrovske and Kurakhove sectors," the General Staff said.

Frontline situation and attacks on Ukrainian territory

  • In the Kharkiv sector, in addition to the area of the village of Starytsia, the Russian enemy launched an unsuccessful attack in the Hlyboke-Lyptsi area. The Russian forces continue to carry out air strikes - this time the areas of Izbytske and Pokaliane villages were hit. Today's Russian losses: 35 people killed and wounded, 15 pieces of enemy equipment destroyed, including a tank, an armored combat vehicle and an artillery unit. 
  • In the Kramatorsk sector, Russian invaders attempted to advance in the areas of Novyi, Andriivka and Ivanivka. They struck with a guided aerial bomb near Pivnichne.
  • Russian enemy continues to be active in the Pokrovsk sector, with the number of combat engagements increasing to 21. The enemy is putting the greatest pressure on Ukrainian positions in the area of Novooleksandrivka. Russia also attacked near Umanske and Netaylove. The situation is under control.
  • In the Kurakhove sector, Russian invaders have tried to improve the tactical situation 16 times. They receive a decent rebuff from Ukrainian soldiers, the number of enemy losses is being clarified.
  • In the Vremivsk sector, Russian forces carried out two air strikes near Staromayorske. In other areas, the situation remained unchanged.
  • In the Kherson sector, the areas near Tyahynyka, Tokarivka and Ivanivka came under artillery fire. The number of unsuccessful hostile attacks near Krynky increased to seven. Ukrainian operators of FPV drones are working effectively. 

There were no significant changes in other areas.

"Ukrainian warriors inflict significant losses on the occupation forces, actively using firepower against enemy manpower and equipment. They are taking measures to improve the tactical situation in the designated areas. The tasks of the troop groups have been defined and proven," the General Staff stressed.

  • President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the Russian occupation army had advanced no more than 10 km in the Kharkiv sector.
  • According to Oleksandr Syrskyi, Russia has expanded the area of active hostilities by almost 70 km, thus trying to force the Ukrainian Armed Forces to bring in more brigades from the reserve.
