Due to Ukrainian drone attacks on a Russian oil refinery on the night of May 17, Russians fear that the country and the army may be left without fuel

Valerii Riabykh, a military expert and Development Director of Defense Express media and consulting company, told this on the Espreso TV channel.

“This progress is due to the increase in the production of attack drones in Ukraine. In this category, we are talking about drones of the “Lutyi” type, which are long-range and hit targets at distances of more than 1,000 km,” he said.

Commenting on the attacks in Crimea, Novorossiysk and Krasnodar region, Riabykh noted that Ukrainian drones have achieved their goals.

“The analysis of the explosions and arrivals in Novorossiysk, Tuapse and Sevastopol shows that most of the drones that flew did reach their targets. Perhaps there were not 102 drones, but, for example, 200. The targets include an oil refinery in Tuapse, fuel and lubrication terminals in the port of Novorossiysk and energy infrastructure facilities in Sevastopol,” the military expert noted.

Russia admits that such strikes by Ukraine are effective, especially when it comes to the Tuapse oil refinery, Riabykh noted.

"The refinery was also hit on January 24-25 this year, after which it was repaired for three months. It was its main primary oil refining unit, they reported. The Main Intelligence Directorate heard that the refinery in Russia had been repaired, so the drones were launched again. The Russian Federation notes that such strikes are more effective than their repairs. They are already expressing concern. They say that if such strikes continue, Russia will be left without fuel.

Accordingly, the occupation forces that are carrying out terror on the territory of Ukraine will be left without fuel first, and then the population. When Ukraine eliminated 10% of Russian oil production, the Russians decided to cancel the export of light oil products, which also account for about 10% of domestic production needs. Currently, there is no such reserve. Local observers say that if this continues, and they are sure that it will, Russia's ability to produce light oil products will decrease in the future, as well as the price for the local population will increase," he summarized.

  • On the night of May 16-17, Ukrainian drones attacked a number of important Russian targets in the temporarily occupied Crimea, Novorossiysk, and Tuapse.
  • According to the Krasnodar region's operational headquarters, a UAV crash caused a fire on the territory of a refinery, and special services began extinguishing it.
