Confiscation of Russian assets must become element of punishment for Russia - Danylo Lubkivskyi
Russia must be punished for the war against Ukraine, and one of the elements of this should be the confiscation of frozen Russian assets in Ukraine's favor
Danylo Lubkivskyi, Director of the Kyiv Security Forum, said this during the online discussion of the Kyiv Security Forum.
"Russia must pay for the cruelty it is committing in Ukraine. We need to find the resources to make Russia pay, to punish Russia for what it has done and what it continues to do in Ukraine," he said.
Lubkivskyi recalled that in November 2023, the influential Financial Times published the famous "Yatsenyuk letter" calling for the transfer of $300 billion worth of Russian assets frozen in the United States and the European Union to Ukraine. The appeal, initiated by the chairman of the Kyiv Security Forum, was supported by prominent international figures.
"The whole idea of our discussion today is that we move forward in our efforts to ensure that real, real decisions are made in a timely manner regarding Russian frozen assets. Because the history of Russia's war against Ukraine has already shown everyone that every delay or freeze is not a decision," he stressed.
"The decision must be made, and we demand, we call on all world leaders and the next Group of Seven summit in June to make all the necessary decisions for us to win, for our real common victory to come to Ukraine, to all our friends and partners from around the world," Danylo Lubkivskyi summed up.
