Putin has no reason to negotiate, he feels confident - military expert Zgurets
Military expert Serhiy Zgurets believes that the large amount of manpower and equipment allows Putin to exert pressure on multiple sectors along the front line
He shared his opinions with Espreso TV.
“To be honest, there is no point for Putin to take the path of negotiations now. He feels a certain amount of courage, given that a significant increase in Russia's manpower and equipment allows him to apply pressure in many areas of the front line. But at the same time, there are certain risks for Russia, because, on the one hand, the occupiers' losses have increased dramatically. If in 2022 we said that the average Russian personnel losses were around 200 people per day, and in 2023 - around 500-600, this year we are talking about 1,000-1,500 per day of fighting. These are big losses that Russia ignores and does not want to notice, replenishing its army with those extra people it enlists for the war,” the military expert commented.
According to him, Russia's economy is also in a tight spot, and the Russian army's weapon stockpiles are decreasing.
However, the next year will allow the Kremlin to continue fighting. In other words, Russia maintains a certain level of strength, but not enough to withstand all the risks of prolonged large-scale military operations.
“At the current stage, Russia will try to act as if it were the last day, to use all available forces and means to advance as far as possible, and to create the pre-conditions for negotiations, if they are to take place, on the most acceptable terms for itself. So far, according to Putin's logic and the Russian military leadership, I don't see any reason for negotiations to take place now, unless there is special pressure from the United States on Russia. However, the dynamics of the coverage of Trump's talks with Putin look a bit strange to me. Because we are talking about certain concessions, decisions that would rather be made at the expense of Ukraine than Russia. I think this approach will not suit our side, our military and political leadership,” summarized Zgurets.
