Ivan Stupak, a military expert and SBU officer in 2004-2015, says Ukraine controls up to 1,000 square kilometers of Russian territory in the Kursk region

He shared the information on Espreso TV.

"There has been no significant progress from either Ukraine or Russia, according to analysts at DeepState. However, they report that Ukraine currently controls up to 1,000 square kilometers of Russian territory in the Kursk region, down from the previously cited 1,300 square kilometers. This area is now classified as a 'gray zone,'" said Stupak.

According to the military expert, Ukraine is unfortunately experiencing losses in the Kursk region, particularly among its elite forces.

“The best airborne assault units are present, along with officers from the SBU's Alpha and various HUR special forces. However, we have not achieved significant results thus far due to fierce resistance. We are observing attempts at a Russian offensive. Unfortunately, we cannot predict how long this will continue or what its objectives are. The President has stated that the operation will persist. I hope he has a clear understanding of how long we need to maintain our presence there, what we need to defend, where we should retreat, and, conversely, where we can take the offensive,” said Stupak.

The military expert also added that the Russian General Staff had calculated Ukraine's steps regarding the operation in the Kursk region.

“Our further stay in the Kursk region is a purely political goal. We remain here because we still have opportunities, though no one can determine how many we actually have. We must continually invest personnel, equipment, and ammunition in this area. Meanwhile, we are losing the town of Vuhledar, which has held the line for two years and one month,” emphasized Stupak.

  • Earlier. it was reported that the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) fighters probably lack training and equipment to respond to the Ukrainian army's offensive in the Kursk region.
  • The Siversk troops grouping claims that the Russian military is shelling settlements in the Kursk region where there are no Ukrainian soldiers.
