Lithuania will not transfer NASAMS to Ukraine after missile incident in Poland
Lithuania has decided not to hand over the NASAMS anti-aircraft missile system to Ukraine so far, but will share ammunition for the German PzH 2000 howitzer
This was stated by the Minister of Defense of Lithuania, Arvydas Anusauskas, Delfi reports.
A meeting of the State Defense Council was held in Lithuania today, where further military aid to Ukraine was discussed. According to the report, after the missile incident in Poland, Lithuania decided to strengthen its own air defense, so it will keep the NASAMS systems and purchase more air defense equipment.
"It should be said about air defense, since this is a very urgent issue for the region as a whole, it was decided that we should accelerate the acquisition of an additional medium-range air defense system. It was in our plans, it was just much later," the minister explained.
According to him, Lithuania will continue to provide financial and military assistance to Ukraine. Anusauskas added that the Ukrainian military would receive shells for the German Panzerhaubitze 2000 from Lithuania. The minister did not provide information about other supplies.
