"Like two HIMARS MLRS": military observer describes advantages of the M270
HIMARS can launch one block of six missiles, and the M270 - twice as many.
Military observer Mykhailo Zhyrokhov shared the details with Espreso.West.
"The M270 is a multiple rocket launcher system based on the same missiles as the M142 HIMARS. The difference is that the HIMARS is a wheeled vehicle based on a regular American military truck, and the M270 is a tracked vehicle based on a Bradley infantry fighting vehicle. They use the same ammunition, and only differ in power. For example, Soviet samples are charged with separate projectiles, while Western ones are charged with separate blocks. Thus, HIMARS can launch one block of six missiles, and M270 - twice as many. In fact, the fact that we have these weapons will not change anything on the battlefield. It's just that instead of two HIMARS, one M270 will have to leave the position".
"Before the appearance of these weapons, the Russians calmly accumulated reserves in the nearest rear, and now any accumulation is destroyed".
According to Mykhailo Zhyrokhov, if we compare the two artillery systems, wheeled equipment will be faster, but for the safety of personnel, the M270 is better.
"Himars move faster", the expert noted. "And the tracked vehicles are better armored. Even if ruptures occur nearby, nothing will happen to the military man who is in the cockpit. It has a lower movement speed, but more power. In general, the fact that we have such weapons allows our troops to hit targets in the enemy's immediate rear: to destroy command posts, ammunition depots, and personnel locations. Before the appearance of this weapon, the Russians calmly accumulated reserves in the nearest rear, and now any accumulation is destroyed by HIMARS".
