Lend-lease law for Ukraine comes into force in US
On Saturday, October 1, the US Lend-Lease law for Ukraine entered into force
Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk reminded about this on Twitter.
"Today, the US law on lend-lease for Ukraine entered into force. Which means more weapons of various and high-quality. Ukraine will definitely get all its territories back," Stefanchuk wrote.
The law agreed on a simplified procedure for providing military aid to Ukraine during the war with Russia. The text of the law refers to giving the President of the United States, Joe Biden, extended powers to transfer or lease defense products to Ukraine for the "protection of the civilian population from Russian military invasion" and for other purposes.
Lend-Lease allows the United States to supply weapons and equipment directly of American production. Military assistance is provided without prior payment; payment for supplies is made after the war, or serviceable equipment and weapons are returned after the war.
The US has already taken such a step before. The law on the provision of material assistance to European allies in the USA was passed in March 1941. The initiated Lend-Lease procedure, i.e. "rental or loan", provided that the Americans would quickly transfer military and civilian equipment, weapons, equipment, ammunition and other property to countries whose defense is "vitally important" for the United States. Such countries initially included Great Britain and China, and then France and the USSR.
