Lavrov says that Russia's nuclear doctrine will extend to seized Ukrainian territories
Russian Foreign Affairs Minister Sergey Lavrov has said that the nuclear doctrine will extend to seized Ukrainian territories if the invading Russian forces declare them part of the Russian Federation
This is reported by the Russian media.
Lavrov made the corresponding statement during a press conference on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, answering a question about whether the Russian nuclear doctrine would extend to the occupied territories if the Kremlin declared them annexed to Russia.
"The entire territory of the Russian Federation, which is enshrined and can be additionally enshrined in the constitution of the Russian Federation, is definitely under the full protection of the state, this is absolutely natural. All laws, doctrines, concepts, and strategies of the Russian Federation apply to its entire territory," Lavrov said.
He also reacted to US President Joe Biden's statement about the inevitable response to the illegal annexation of new Ukrainian territories.
"I didn't hear that the US threatened any kind of strike. I heard that President Biden said that in the case of holding referendums and accepting their results, another round of sanctions "from hell" or somewhere else awaits Russia... If a threatening thesis was put forward that Russia will receive a blow, I will read this text. I was not aware that the US and Ukraine are allies linked by such a dangerous chain," Lavrov added.
