Kuleba receives outline of China's "peace plan", promises to respond after studying full text
Wang Yi, China’s top diplomat, shared with Ukraine’s MFA the key points of the "peace plan", which will be studied in detail by the Ukrainian side after receiving the full text
This was announced by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba at a joint press conference with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, Interfax-Ukraine reports.
"Yes, we had a meeting with China's top diplomat, Wang Yi, and he shared with me the key points of China's 'peace plan'. We are looking forward to receiving the text, because this is not something where you can draw conclusions just by hearing what the plan is about. We need to know all the details. As soon as we receive the document, we will carefully study it and draw conclusions," Kuleba said.
At the same time, the Ukrainian Foreign Minister emphasised that the peace formula initiated by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy remains a top priority.
Kuleba also noted that all of China's actions in the context of Russian aggression against Ukraine should be aimed at protecting the principle of Ukraine's territorial integrity.
The day before, Bloomberg reported, citing European officials who have not been named, that the Chinese plan for a peaceful settlement of Russia's war against Ukraine contains calls for a ceasefire and the supply of weapons to Ukraine.
Speaking at the Munich Security Conference, Wang Yi noted that China does not want the "crisis" in Ukraine to continue.
"We don't want to add fuel to the fire and we don't want to benefit from the crisis. We want to help find peace, we are on the side of peace and dialogue," he added, recalling Chinese President Xi Jinping's proposal, made on the second day after the full-scale invasion, that Ukraine and Russia sit down and discuss ways to resolve the "crisis."
Answering questions, he reiterated the relevance of the proposals made by Xi Jinping that the territorial integrity and principles of the UN Charter must be respected, a nuclear war must not be started and cannot be won, nuclear power plants must not be under fire, and chemical and biological weapons must not be used under any circumstances.
Wang Yi emphasized that China has no reason to abandon the peaceful path, as "increasing power means developing peacefully."
