Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant explosion: 35 residents are missing, 7 children among them

As of 13:00, at least 46 settlements have been flooded as a result of the Russian occupiers' explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station; 35 residents are missing, including children.

On the sixth day of the liquidation of the aftermath of the hydroelectric power plant explosion, law enforcement officials said that 46 settlements in the Kherson region are flooded, including: 32 are on the territory controlled by Ukraine, which is 3,821 houses, and 14 villages and towns are on the temporarily occupied territory.

Since the beginning of the tragedy, 2718 civilians have been evacuated, including 190 children. Five people were killed.

35 people are still missing, including 7 children.

In Mykolaiv region, 31 settlements were flooded. 982 Ukrainians were evacuated, including 167 children. One person died.

"We continue to supply drinking and industrial water. Together with the local authorities, we are looking for opportunities to restore stable water supply to citizens," the press service writes.

In Dnipropetrovs'k region, almost 162 thousand people in 34 settlements have no water supply.

Current situation

The situation in the south of Ukraine after the Kakhovka dam explosion 

On June 6, occupying Russian forces blew up the Kakhovka HPP, completely destroying it.  Evacuation efforts have begun to move residents away from the flooded areas. After that, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy convened an emergency meeting of the Security and Defense Council, and the world began to respond to the tragedy.  Follow the detailed course of events here.

As a result, flooding was reported in four districts of Mykolaiv on Tuesday evening. The water level rose by 82 cm. Bridges and gardens were destroyed and flooded in the region. On Wednesday, June 7, flooding continued in four districts of Mykolaiv.

As of June 8, the water level in Mykolaiv rose to 102 cm. 

On Friday, June 9, the water level in Mykolaiv continued to be monitored. It was reported that the water level in the city had dropped by 2 cm overnight, and by another 3 cm in the morning.

On the morning of June 10, it was reported that the water level in Mykolaiv was 88 centimetres.

As of Saturday evening, June 10, the water level in Mykolaiv was 84 centimetres. 

Overnight, the water level in Kherson and Mykolaiv, which were flooded as a result of the invaders' blowing up the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station, dropped.

The water salinity in the Black Sea has sharply decreased.
