"It’s Russia’s war that is worsening food insecurity, and only Russia can end it" - Biden
Speaking at the UN General Assembly, US President Joe Biden said that the war unleashed by Russia is exacerbating food insecurity, and only Russia can end it
US President Joe Biden said this during the General Assembly of the United Nations in New York.
Biden said that Russia is to blame for the global food crisis. In addition, the Russian Federation spreads lies about Western sanctions during the war in Ukraine.
"Russia in the meantime is pumping out lies trying to pin the blame for the crisis, the food crisis, on the sanctions imposed by many in the world for the aggression against Ukraine. So let me be clear: Our sanctions have directly allowed Russia to export food and fertilizer. No restrictions.
It’s Russia’s war that is worsening food insecurity, and only Russia can end it," Biden said.
The US president emphasized the help of the UN in concluding an agreement on the export of grain with Ukraine and the Russian Federation. Biden encourages its continuation.
The statement also said that 193 million people worldwide are acutely food insecure: "A jump of 40 million in a year."
Biden also announced the provision of USD 2.9 billion in humanitarian and food aid from the US.
