It's a mockery and a relic of the time - former US Secretary of State Pompeo on Russia and China's membership in UN Security Council
It is a relic of the times that China and Russia occupy seats in the UN Security Council and at the same time are countries that do not intend to respect international law
Former US Secretary of State and now Trump's rival for the presidency, Mike Pompeo, said this during a visit to Kyiv, Radio Liberty reports.
He expressed this position during a visit to Kyiv on April 3.
"I am not optimistic about the UN. It may have made sense when it was created, but we have seen the UN Human Rights Council run by the Iranians. We saw the Venezuelans in charge of human rights at the UN alongside the Iranians who treated women as property and ran the UN Human Rights Council. We see this time and time again. Today, the UN will not confront the fact that the Chinese Communist Party is holding a million Muslims in concentration camps in the western part of the country. The organization is fundamentally broken," said Mike Pompeo.
According to him, the membership of China and Russia in the UN Security Council is a relic of the time, and these two countries disregard international law.
"It is already a relic of the time that the Chinese Communist Party and Russia occupy two seats in the UN Security Council and are two countries that do not intend to respect international law. They are unlikely to obey. I think this is a mockery of what was. Because if you look at the mission of the UN, when it was created, very noble ideas were laid, which are contained in the UN Charter. However, we can now see that this institution is broken. But I have a theory on how to move forward," the former US Secretary of State summarized.
