"It will be difficult for Ukraine's Armed Forces to conduct an offensive in Crimea due to the challenging terrain" - Andrii Ryzhenko
Andrii Ryzhenko, 1st rank Captain with the Ukrainian Armed Forces' reserve, says that due to the difficult terrain on the Crimean peninsula, it will be challenging for Ukrainian troops to conduct offensive operation
He expressed his opinion on Espreso TV.
"Crimea has difficult terrain for ground offensive operations. It has always been like that. Even during the Second World War, a very large number of personnel of the German army died in battles for the peninsula, and at that time Germany had one of the most modern armies in the world. The terrain in Crimea does not contribute to offensive operations. Although it is not very easy to leave Crimea to the continental part of Ukraine," Ryzhenko explained.
The captain of the 1st rank with the Ukrainian Armed Forces' reserve added that this especially applies to mountainous terrain.
"This especially applies to the southern coast of Crimea. It is very difficult to conduct military operations there. My grandfather, who participated in the battles for Sevastopol, said that if they had received help, the German army would never have captured the city. Because the terrain on the peninsula is very diverse. In particular, there is a mountainous area in which it is very difficult to conduct an offensive," he added.
