It seems a second front is opening in the Baltic region - international expert Golub

Maria Holub, ANST network expert on bilateral relations between Ukraine and the EU, highlights the fact that years ago Ukraine warned the EU that Russia would use the Nord Stream projects for military purposes, as well as for intelligence activities in the Baltic zone

She shared her opinion with "Espreso.TV" live on air.

Maria Holub commented on the explosions on the routes of the Nord Stream 1 (PP-1) and Nord Stream 2 (PP-2) gas pipelines in the Baltic Sea, which occurred on September 26.

"The key thing is that this is a planned and long-term strategy of the Russian Federation in relation to its partners in the EU, who until recently wore rose-colored glasses and said that gas dependence on Russia is not a threat to European consumers. The situation of the last few days has shown the point of no return. In addition there was a rather decisive statement by NATO on these issues, in which the damage to these pipelines is defined as the result of deliberate and irresponsible acts of sabotage," the expert of the ANST network on bilateral relations between Ukraine and the EU said.

Maria Holub emphasized that the investigation is currently ongoing, because other countries have already joined the investigation, not only Denmark and Sweden, in whose waters these leaks occurred. But so far, none of the countries talks about specifics.

"It is important to emphasize that there are impressions regarding the opening of the second front and this front will now be transferred to the Baltic region. In fact, Ukraine warned about this many years ago, when there were debates and discussions about the launch of PP-2 and then it was said that it was a political project, also a tool of influence and future blackmail of Russia. In addition, it was emphasized that the Russian Federation would use such a tool for its militaristic purposes, and even some Ukrainian experts spoke of espionage purposes, because Russia, under the guise of ensuring uninterrupted supply through PP-1 and PP-2, will carry out any reconnaissance activity in the Baltic zone," Holub noted.
