Greece considers possibility of transferring S-300 air defense systems to Ukraine: what is known
The Greek government announced that it would hand over S-300 air defense systems to Ukraine if American air defense and Patriot systems are installed on Crete
This is reported by ProNews with reference to the statement of Defense Minister of Greece, Nikos Panagiotopoulos. During the Christmas meeting at the Ministry of National Defense he said:
"If the US installs the Patriot system on the island, once it's integrated – linked to the national air defense system, we'll be able to send the S-300. The same process applies to any other air defense system of Russian origin that the US might want to send to Ukraine," he explained.
Panagiotopoulos emphasized that it is not a matter of purchase, but of installation, which means that the Patriot system will be under the control of the Americans.
Thus, the Greek government does not rule out the possibility of transferring not only the S-300, but also the Tor-M1 and Osa complexes to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The same procedure applies to any other air defense system of Russian origin, the minister added.
