German government specifies number of Marder IFVs for Ukraine, terms of delivery, military training
Germany wants to deliver about 40 Marder infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine in the next three months. The AFU must master them in 8 weeks
German government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit reported this.
According to him, in the first quarter, delivery of the Patriot anti-aircraft missile complex from the army warehouses is also planned to Ukraine.
The Marder training will take place in Germany and last about eight weeks, the spokesman added.
For reference: the Marder infantry fighting vehicle was developed in 1966-1969 by the German company Rheinmetall AG on the order of the German Armed Forces. At the time of adoption, this IFV exceeded all known vehicles of this class in terms of security and had a high speed of movement in difficult terrain, which allowed it to operate together with Leopard tanks as part of a strike group.
