German Foreign Minister urges not to delay transfer of battle tanks to Ukraine
German Minister of Foreign Affairs Annalena Baerbock insists on a quick decision on the supply of German battle tanks to Ukraine.
She said this in an interview with the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.
German arms supplies will "obviously, very clearly" help "save human lives," Baerbock said.
"A human rights-driven foreign policy must constantly ask how we can help liberate even more villages and thus save lives through further supplies," the minister said.
Baerbock also emphasized that the decision on the possible supply of German battle tanks can only be made jointly - "in the coalition and at the international level." "In the decisive phase in which Ukraine is now, I do not think that this decision should be postponed for a long time," she said.
German aid in arms should be primarily based on how to deliver more equipment that is already "helping effectively," meaning air defense, artillery, and rocket launchers, Baerbock said.
Also, according to her, it would be necessary to strengthen the repair and provision of ammunition. She wants to discuss with the arms industry the possibility of creating their own production lines for spent ammunition, for example for the Gepard anti-aircraft guns.
