The ex-commander of US troops in Europe, General Ben Hodges, said that the United States would destroy most of the Russian military capabilities in response to the use of nuclear weapons by the Russian Federation against Ukraine.

Hodges said this in an interview with Channel 24.

According to him, using nuclear weapons will not bring Russia benefits on the battlefield, but it will receive a response from the collective West and the United States.

"My president has already said that if Russia makes a terrible mistake and uses weapons of mass destruction, its consequences will be catastrophic. I believe him. The Russian General Staff also believes him. They understand that there are simply no positive consequences for Russia. There will be zero of them if the Russian forces decide to use nuclear weapons. This will not bring them any benefit on the battlefield but only trouble. Because then the collective West, led by the United States, will have to react," Hodges said.

He stressed that Russian nuclear weapons are effective only when they are not used.

"The Kremlin wants people to talk as much as possible about nuclear weapons and express their concerns. Russian nuclear weapons are effective only when they are not used. As soon as it is used, that's it. Because then the United States will step in and destroy most of Russia's military capabilities," Hodges warned.

He expressed his conviction that the Russian general staff knows this and believes that the Kremlin will come to this.

"Moreover, you already know that Xi Jinping met with Chancellor Olaf Scholz and said that he condemns Russia's possible use of nuclear weapons but at the same time condemns the threats of nuclear weapons. Russia has no friends on this issue, maybe only one North Korea. But they have no allies who would approve the use of nuclear weapons in Ukraine," Hodges stated.
