Fully functioning democracy and freedom of speech are important for majority of Ukrainians - NDI poll
94% of Ukrainians say it is very important for them that Ukraine becomes a fully functioning democracy
These are the findings of a survey conducted by the National Democratic Institute (USA) in January 2023.
According to Ukrainians, the most important characteristic of a full-fledged democracy is freedom of speech – 61% of respondents believe so. 58% also said that equal justice for all is important, and 47% said free and fair elections are important.
At the same time, in December 2021, this figure was slightly lower – 76% of respondents supported full democracy.
The nationwide telephone survey was conducted on January 4-16, 2023, with financial support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Sweden, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) of the United Kingdom, and Global Affairs Canada.
A total of 2,508 respondents were interviewed.
