FSB makes Ukrainians seeking to cross Russia's border with Estonia wait up to 6 days in new 'filtering' procedure - Mariupol mayoral adviser
Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) has instituted extensive additional checks for Ukrainians planning to cross Russia's border with Estonia. Russia is detaining people, especially men, and prevents them from crossing the border
This was announced by Petro Andryushchenko, adviser to the mayor of Mariupol, on Espreso.
"Before the annexation, many residents of Mariupol hesitated whether to go or wait for the Armed Forces in the city - now they have made the final decision. A lot of people are leaving Mariupol, but we faced a new problem," he said.
Andryushchenko emphasized that a problematic situation arose on the border of Russia and Estonia, in the area of the city of Ivangorod.
"What we observed near Mariupol - the FSB actually set up a filtering point for Ukrainians - there are Mariupolians, Berdians, Melitopolians and partly Khersonians. Vasylivka is closed and the only way is through Estonia. As of now, the queue is such that people are waiting in groups of 5-6 days. There is still an influx of Russians trying to escape from the mobilization," said the mayor's adviser.
According to him, the FSB filters Ukrainians very tightly and there are several thousand people in the queue.
"People are in cars, there are no conditions. People from there report that there have already been arrests, they are not letting men into Estonia. First of all, they serve Russians, so the queue increases and the possibility of passage decreases. The situation is catastrophic, the people of Mariupol tell terrible things. Neither FSB officers, nor Russian civilians don't care about them. They say that the same thing happened in Mariupol, when there was a big wave of evacuation - the Russians are already arranging the same filtering measures on their border," Andryushchenko concluded.
