He told about this in a Ukrainian Witness interview released February 11, 2023.
"It was a purposeful decision... Bakhmut is crucial for everyone," Stakhovsky emphasized.
"We are a mortar support group. We have 82-mm and 120-mm mortars. We have goals and tasks outlined: like fire attacks," he explained.
He has already taken part in assault operations.
Before that, Stakhovsky was a member of the special military unit in the Kyiv territorial defense.
Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine Stakhovsky joined the Ukrainian Army as a volunteer.
Budapest has been a permanent place of residence of the ex-sportsman's family in recent years.
Stakhovsky retired from tennis in January 2022, then he engaged in winemaking.
