Russia to provide gas as humanitarian aid to unrecognized Transnistria
Vadim Krasnoselsky, head of unrecognized Transnistria, says that Russia will provide their territory with gas as humanitarian aid
The Russian propaganda outlet TASS reported the information.
"Russia will supply gas as humanitarian aid to Transnistria," Krasnoselsky said.
According to him, the Russian gas will be supplied only to Transnistria’s consumers and not to Moldova.
"I hope that as a result of these negotiations, in the near future—just a little more patience—gas will flow into Transnistria. It will be used for electricity generation and heating for our citizens," the Transnistrian leader added.
Situation in Transnistria
The so-called leader of Transnistria, Vadim Krasnoselsky, signed a decree on December 9, 2024, introducing an economic emergency due to the threat of stopping Russian gas supplies via Ukraine.
On January 1, 2025, Ukraine halted the transportation of Russian natural gas through its gas transmission system.
Since January 1, Transnistria ceased supplying heat and hot water to residential consumers and businesses due to the halt in Russian gas deliveries.
On January 2, it became known that all industrial enterprises, except food production, had suspended operations in the region.
On January 3, rolling blackouts were introduced in the region, with a possibility of water supply interruptions.
The self-proclaimed Transnistrian government rejected Chisinau's proposal to purchase gas from Europe. They are relying on the resumption of supplies from Russia’s Gazprom.
On January 6, the European Commission stated that it is working on ensuring Moldova’s energy supply and urged Transnistria to accept Chisinau’s help.
On January 10, the self-proclaimed Transnistrian government extended the economic emergency for another 30 days due to the halt in Russian gas supplies.
