"Everything depends on Russia's war against Ukraine": diplomat Chaly on China's invasion of Taiwan
Diplomat Valerii Chaly believes that Xi Jinping is actively preparing to address the "Taiwan issue" by military means
He shared his opinion with Espreso TV.
“We need to do more work, and more precisely the relevant structures, to learn more about China's new approaches to foreign policy and whether this country will really become more authoritarian and ready for war. What we are seeing now is very similar to this. Now, after the re-election, Xi Jinping will make decisions more individually,” Chaly explained.
The diplomat believes that the likelihood of China invading Taiwan depends on the outcome of Russia's war against Ukraine.
“If you put aside the many factors that may arise, China is preparing to resolve the Taiwan issue militarily. China is ready to do it as soon as possible. Xi Jinping needs this to justify these approaches of the Communist Party and to stay in office. He will do it, I have no doubt. However, whether they will allow him to do this is another question. I think everything will depend on the results of Russia's war against Ukraine. If the US and its allies do not help Ukraine as much as possible, then a war between China and Taiwan is inevitable,” he added.
