Estonia will continue to support Ukraine - Kaimo Kuusk
Estonia's Ambassador to Ukraine Kaimo Kuusk told Espreso how his country is helping restore Ukraine's energy system and whether Europe is ready for a new wave of refugees if there is an apocalyptic scenario caused by Russian attacks.
Kaimo Kuusk said that in order to help Ukraine restore the energy system, Estonians first study the needs of Ukrainians, and then look for such equipment in their country.
“We are learning what you need, and then we start seeking for those equipment in Estonia. We are sending you generators and transformers. One of them was 62 tons, so they are really the heavy ones,” the ambassador of the Republic of Estonia to Ukraine said.
According to the Estonian politician, Europe understands that there may be a new wave of refugees and is preparing for the worst scenario.
“We understand this very well. And we should be ready for various scenarios, including very difficult cases. Of course, the lack of electricity, heat and water make people move. First of all, within the country, but also towards Europe, including Estonia,” he noted.
Estonia has accepted over 100,000 Ukrainian refugees and is ready to find a solution in case of a new wave.
“Estonia has welcomed more than 100,000 Ukrainian refugees, and 65,000 have stayed. In February, we in Estonia thought we were able to take only 5,000, and now it's 65,000. I hope that together we will be able to avoid an apocalyptic scenario, but even if needed, I'm sure we will find the solution,” Kaimo Kuusk concluded
